This course will provide an introduction to anthropological approaches to gender studies.
人間のジェンダーに対する視点を人類学的に考察するための入門コース。
This course discusses inseparable relationship and possible mutual contribution between cultural anthropology and gender & sexuality studies through historical overview and the analysis of ethnographic works.
文化人類学とジェンダー・セクシュアリティ研究は、互いにどのように不可分な関係にあり、互いにどのように貢献しうるかを、学説史に沿って、具体的なフィールド事例も交えつつ考察する。

Learning Goals(学習目標)
|
|
By learning basic concepts of cultural anthropology and gender & sexuality studies, students are expected to nurture the critical views that regard all "social and cultural" phenomena, whether of their own or others, as related to gender & sexuality.
Students will also experience fieldwork to learn anthropological approaches to gender & sexuality studies.
文化人類学とジェンダー・セクシュアリティ研究の基礎概念を身につけ、異文化・自文化を問わず、「社会・文化的」なあらゆる物事をジェンダー・セクシュアリティの視点から批判的に見つめる視点を養う。
またフィールドワークを通し、文化人類学的なジェンダー・セクシュアリティ研究の視点を体得する。

中間エッセイ 60％ （履修人数によっては、グループによる調査とクラス発表を行う）
期末テスト 40％
7回以上休んだ受講者は自動的に「Ｅ」の評価を受ける。
Mid-term essay: 60% (Students may do group work and presentation in class, depending on the class size)
Final exam: 40%
Students who have missed 7 classes and more will automatically get “E”.

Notes(注意事項)

1) 中間エッセイは、指定された英語文献を批判的に読み、新たなリサーチクエスチョンを立て、ミニ・フィールドワークを行った上で書くこと。
For mid-term evaluation, students will critically read one of designated English readings, make new research question(s), conduct a small fieldwork, and write an essay.
2) クラスでディスカッションを行う際は、自分とは異なる立場の人がいることを充分に想定し、特定のジェンダーや性的指向に対するステレオタイプ的な発言、一方的な批判（批難）、からかい等は厳に慎むこと。
In class discussions, students must be attentive to diverse backgrounds of their classmates. They must strictly refrain from stereotypical remarks, one-way criticism, teasing, and other inappropriate behavior directed to specific gender identities or sexual orientations.
