General Description (概要)

This course aims to examine a variety of literary representations of issues such as self, body and sexuality by applying contemporary literary theories, especially through the perspective of gender.
現代文学理論を使って、とりわけジェンダー的視点から、文学において表象されている自己、身体、セクシュアリティといった諸問題を検討する。
This course deals with issues of the representations of femininity, masculinity, the body, the self both in literature and cultural products, in relation to race, sexuality, and gender.
Students are invited to analyse latent imperialist, Orientalist, racist, sexist, homophobic contents in sugar-coated innocent-looking materials. Particularly we look at the famous story repeatedly narrated from generation to generation crossculturally.
文学作品や文化作品の中に現れる女性性、男性性、身体性、自己などの概念の表象を、人種、セクシュアリティ、ジェンダーの観点から分析し、一見無害なテクストに潜む帝国主義、オリエンタリズム、レイシズム、セクシズム、ホモフォビアなどを炙り出します。特に世代を超え、文化横断的に、繰り返し語り直されている有名な作品をとりあげます。

Learning Goals(学習目標)

The students will be able to learn how to analyse literary texts and films using theoretical knowledge on gender, sexuality, post-colonialism, etc.
They will learn how gender operates in narrative.
文学作品や映像作品をジェンダーやセクシュアリティ、ポストコロニアリズムなどについての理論的知識を用いて分析する方法を学びます。
語りにおいてジェンダーがどのように作用するかを学びます。

We have 3 modules: Module 1 Beauty and the Beast Narrative, Module 2 Madame Butterfly Narrative, Module 3 Robinson Crusoe Narrative. You have writing assignments from time to time.

読む気のない人、読めないと思う人は履修しないでください。文学の授業ですのでテクストを読むのは基本事項です。
課題テクスト、課題映像作品は、ディスカッションの授業の前に必ず目を通してください。
