General Description (概要)
This is a foundation course into peace and conflict studies. It will give students an overview of a variety of theories, approaches, and methodology in order to better understand the current international and domestic environment in war-prone countries and regions in order to develop solutions for conflicts. The course will also improve methodological and report writing skills.

平和と紛争研究における基礎コースである。紛争の解決方法を生み出すため、紛争がちな国々や地域における国際/国内環境についての理解を深め、様々な理論やアプローチ、方法論の概観を学ぶ。また、このコースでは方法論的能力及びレポート作成能力の向上も図る。


As a foundation course for the peace studies program, this graduate seminar examines key approaches and concepts in the study of peace and conflict resolution, with a special focus on Human Security. The first part of the course discusses different concepts of peace and the development of peace and conflict theory. The second part will introduce students to different approaches to Human Security. Finally, students will be able to apply the main theoretical perspectives to empirical case studies of their choice in order to provide concrete frames of reference for understanding the theory and practice of peace and conflict resolution.



 
Learning Goals(学習目標)
1. To understand the key theoretical approaches in Peace and Conflict studies with special reference to Human Security;
2. To be able to reflect critically upon them by applying theoretical approaches to concrete case studies in class discussion;
3. To be able to produce a graduate-level research paper of approx. 3,000 words.
