General Description (概要)
The concept and history of international law; analysis of the present situation and the perspective for the future.

国際法の概念,歴史および現状の研究と分析および将来への展望を扱う。


This course finds framework of international law (IL), being concerned with explanations as to how IL applies in contemporary issue and other fields of studies.

This course employs the approach which has not only academic but also empirical perspectives of IL. The former part of the course sets out theoretical framework, and the latter part provides participants with an opportunity to experience practice of international humanitarian law (IHL) and refugee law (RL). Four lessons of this part are conducted in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Japan which has enhanced humanitarian discussion and contributed to foreign policy on humanitarian issues. The participants will learn how they deal with reality in protecting individuals such as civilians in the middle of war and conflict.
