Sociologists are interested in the systematic study of social life and social transformation. This includes various topics of analysis that include socialization, culture, race and ethnicity, sex and gender, marriage and family, religion, deviance, inequality and globalization. Through lecture, discussion, writing assignments, and small group activities you will be introduced to the fundamentals of sociology, including research topics and issues, theories and methodologies. Beyond the core sociological concepts, this course seeks to encourage a better understanding of the world in which we all live, understand what it means to be a member of society, and to promote tolerance of those who are different.
