General Description (概要)

General analysis of Chinese ethics with stress on its historical and structural aspects. The course also covers the methodology and the modern relevance of Chinese ethics.
中国における倫理思想について、歴史的、体系的に概説する。また、その研究方法、および現代における論題を考察する。
We will examine the major forms of philosophy that developed in India and China. Traditions to be examined include Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Mohism, Daoism and Legalism.

To gain a good understanding of the main concepts and claims of the various forms of Asian Philosophy. To develop the ability to analyze and compare their respective claims.

2: The _Upanishads_
3: Jain philosophy
4: Early Buddhism; Theravada Buddhism
5: Mahayana thought; Madhyamika; Yogacara
6: Ancient China and the "Hundred Schools of Thought
7: Confucius, Mencius and Xunzi
8: Mohism and Legalism
9: Daoism; Laozi and Zhuangzi
10: Song and Ming period Confucianism (Cheng brothers, Zhu Xi, Wang Yangming, etc.)
