General Description (概要)

Some topics in the history of anthropological theory and an introduction to the basic concepts of anthropology, with special attention to the material aspects of culture, social structure and organization, symbolic aspects of culture and culture change.
人類学理論の歴史および人類学の基礎概念を解説する。文化，社会構造と組織の実証面，文化と社会の変化面に重きをおく。
This class overviews variations and similarities of human life as an introductory class of cultural anthropology. Especially, the class pays attention to the importance of anthropological perspectives in our daily living. Students also learn about aims and significance of fieldwork, a methodological characteristics of cultural anthropology. In addition, students are expected to develop ability to analyze problems and logically express their views as a part of academic training.
このクラスでは文化人類学の入門コースとして人間の営為の多様性と類似性について概観する。特に、人類学的視点が日常生活の中でどのように必要であり、また有用であるかという点に着目して講義を行う。具体的には、文化の概念、政治・経済システム、結婚と家族、儀礼と世界観、ジェンダー、開発、医療などのトピックを取り上げる。文化人類学の手法的特徴であるフィールドワークに関しても、その意義と狙いについて例を多用しながら説明する。また、学問的トレーニングの一助として、問題を分析する姿勢、論文を書く手法を重視した課題に取り組む。

エスノグラフィー読後プレゼンテーション （グループ） group presentation 20 %
読んだエスノグラフィーについての小論文（個人） essay (individual work) 30 %
期末試験中のファイナルは実施しない final Exam will not be held during the final examination week.
