General Description (概要)
A historical study of the origin and development of the understanding of different human rights in various societies and their application in the fields of law, politics, economics and social relations. It is primarily concerned with Human Rights in the West, and with special reference to Christianity.

特定民族と時代における人権思想の展開とそれに伴う諸問題を考察する。


This course will look into the history, origin and development of the understanding of different human rights in various societies. With a critical approach, it will look into the aspects of Human Rights in the West, while considering the challenges from the Asian and Islamic perspectives, with special reference to Christianity. It will take up Human rights issues in the world today to see it pragmatically.



 
Learning Goals(学習目標)
This graduate level course is to develop critical thinking using debates and discussions.
It also is to develop concerns in social issues taking case studies of practical human rights issues.
We use reading material to improve information and at the same time looking into issues of today’s global society. While the first part of the course will be introduced by the professor and the students are required to read, discuss and make presentations of human rights issues as part of their participation.

Evaluation will be based on participation (presentation and discussion of assigned readings) and a report to be presented at the end of the course based on each one’s research(particulars will be discussed in the class according to each ones interest)
